Wie kommt die Weinbergschnecke zu ihrem Namen?

How does the snail get its name?

Like grapevines, snails prefer calcareous soils. There you will find the optimal conditions for your healthy growth. The snail needs lime primarily for its own house, to "expand" and to repair any damage. But the snail also uses the lime for its offspring, i.e. for laying eggs. Due to the high altitude and the cold winters, we don't grow wine here in Tyrol, but there is plenty of lime. The Wilder Kaiser belongs to the northern Limestone Alps and is rich in the precious mineral.
